A closure order in the Ashland Watershed that has kept people from using many of the trails since December will be lifted on April 30th. The closure was put in place to ensure for public safety safety during helicopter logging operations that were a part of ongoing work in the Ashland Forest Resiliency Stewardship Project. The current work has been ongoing since December.
Approximately 14 miles of trails will be re-opened. However, not all portions of these trails will be immediately accessible. People should expect to see downed trees and branches left behind after winter storms, and remaining snow at higher elevations will also make some areas of these trails inaccessible until further snow melt occurs. Tolman Creek Road will once again be open to public vehicles, making driving to Four Corners and access to trailheads along this road possible.
People are encouraged to remain aware of the continued project activity in the area: drive slowly on roads and always be prepared for oncoming vehicles, including log trucks as they continue to haul down Tolman Creek Road.
