Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Moving Pictures: A Survey Exhibition of Works by Deborah Oropallo and Collaborators." Opening April 18 at 5 p.m., the exhibition invites art enthusiasts to delve into the captivating world of Deborah Oropallo and witness her artistic evolution spanning montage, sculpture, installation, and media work.
More than just a retrospective, "Moving Pictures" amplifies Oropallo's artistic journey, shedding light on her significant contributions to contemporary art. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1954, Oropallo received her BFA from Alfred University and her MA/MFA from the University of California at Berkeley. Initially trained as a painter, she seamlessly integrates mixed media techniques such as photomontage, video, printmaking, and painting into her practice.
The award-winning Oregon State University Land Steward training helps landowners learn about their property and develop a management plan. This 11-week program covers critical topics like wildfire risk reduction, forests, soil health, wildlife, habitat, pasture management, stream care, water capture and distribution, and much more.
In this introductory class, each class will have a short instruction time, a demonstration, followed by practice time with help from the instructor. The students will work through a sketch book which includes lessons, practice pages, and each week’s drawing assignment. At the end of the course the sketch book will serve as the students ‘textbook’ and will showcase all they learned.

Here in the shadow of Mount Shasta, we love to play outside. Between the mountains, rivers, and lakes we have an abundance of natural places to explore, enjoy, and steward. Preserving our natural recreation areas requires collaboration, planning, and intention. We are gearing up for a new chapter of recreation planning this spring. Our recreation coalition is thinking about everything from trail stewardship and seasonal roadway access to building climate resiliency to establishing more ways to connect communities to each other.
We need your big ideas for the future of recreation in our backyard! Will you join us?

Parent Project is a 10-week series where we go over topics like improving family relationships, using effective discipline to improve school attendance and performance, reduce substance use and negative peer influences, and how to address destructive behavior. It is an opportunity to meet with other parents in similar situations in a judgement free zone and begin to develop a new support system. When you feel like you have tried everything and nothing is working, we can help.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Gene Lucas Community Center beginning May 7th and ending July 9th.
