Joaquin Miller

Many critics of the flamboyant Western dress and extravagant poetry of Joaquin Miller have also recognized his enthusiasm and contribution to Western literature.

 

The Poet of the Sierras, Joaquin Miller, once proposed creation of what he called “a sort of Indian Republic” with Mount Shasta at the center.

In the late 1800's, the self-proclaimed “Poet of the Sierras,” Joaquin Miller, was known for his colorful  dress, restless travels, and flamboyant writing about the West.  But like many artists, Miller struggled with his personal relationships with women.
