Alice Hoffman won many awards and fans with her novels, like Practical Magic. 

But she left the realm of the magical to dwell in reality in her book Survival Lessons.

It was inspired by her battle with cancer, and the similar battles of family members.

Even if we don't get all we want out of life, we should be able to make some choices about how it ends. 

End-of-life directives allow us to have some say in how we are treated medically as death approaches. 

COHO--Choosing Options, Honoring Options--works to ensure people's choices are honored.

The organization that goes by "COHO" is not about fish. 

The name is an acronym for Choosing Options, Honoring Options: helping people make choices about the end of life that will be respected and followed.
