Strosser Wins In Jackson Commissioner Race

campaigns/JPArt

Republican Bob Strosser has claimed a seat on the Jackson County Board of Commissioners.

The former Medford city council member held a large lead in early vote totals, 57 percent to 41 percent.  Democrat Jeff Thomas, a Medford school board member, trailed. Those numbers basically held through Wednesday morning, giving Strosser his win.

Strosser will replace Doug Breidenthal on the board in January.  Strosser defeated Breidenthal in the Republican primary in May.

Elsewhere on the Jackson County ballot: Voters rejected Measure 15-164, creating a heritage district and a levy to fund historical societies.  The measure failed by a two-to-one margin.

All proposed local sales taxes on marijuana passed, while Jacksonville, Eagle Point and Central Point passed bans on pot sales in town. As of Wednesday morning, Shady Cove's proposed ban on cannabis sales held a razon-thin two-vote lead

David Arrasmith won the race for County Assessor over Angela Stuhr.  Incumbent mayors Gary Wheeler in Medford and John Stromberg in Ashland led in their races for reelection.
