Significant Headway Made With Humboldt County Fires

Firefighters are  making good progress controlling two wildfires in Humboldt County.

The  Queen fire, which started last Saturday off Highway 169 and McKinnon Hill Road southeast of Pecwan, is burning in timber and slash. It's actually nine separate fires totaling 158 acres. The fire is 75 percent contained. Eighteen fire crews with nearly 500 firefighters are working the fire.

The Buck fire is burning off Alderpoint Road and Wallan Road near Garberville. The 16-acre fire is now 85 percent contained.
