Rail Fire Adds to Hayfork Fire Woes

UPDATE: FRIDAY, JULY 31, 7:00 PM 

Firefighters are battling an 800-acre fire at Rail Canyon and Highway 3.  The Rail Fire is located 2 miles south of Hayfork (Trinity County, CA) and involves mandatory evacuations.

Mandatory Evacuations for the Hayfork area now include:

  • From Mill Creek Road to Highway 3
  • Highway 3 Mile Marker 3.18 to the Hayfork Dump
  • Mill Gulch Area
  • Morgan Hill Road
  • Kingsbury Road, Pine Street, and Dirt Street.

The nearby Barker Fire- just five miles Northeast of Hayfork - is now at 500 acres (as of 5:30pm). Hwy 3 SB is closed from Hwy 36 to Hyampom Road.

Between 9 a.m. Thursday morning and 9 a.m. Friday, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest received over 223 lightning strikes. This weather system resulted in over 60 fires throughout the forest, mostly located from the Yolla Bolly Wilderness north through the Trinity Alps.

The largest fire at this time is the Happy Fire located near the town of Denny. The fire is approximately 500 acres.

Fires in what's being called the Fork Complex are threatening the towns of Hyampom and Denny, and several evacuations have been ordered.

The Trinity County Sheriff has ordered mandatory evacuations for the residents of Hyampom and a voluntary evacuations for the residents of Denny. For additional information regarding evacuation orders, please contact your local law enforcement officials.

The Barker fire, five miles northeast of Hayfork, is at 120 acres. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Barker Creek Rd.

An evacuation shelter has been set up at the Solid Rock Christian Church, 66 Tule Creek Rd. Hayfork.
