Monique Dugaw is with the American Red Cross. She says 27 volunteers from the Northwest have joined others from all over the country to help flood victims.

Dugaw: “Many volunteers are calling it absolutely catastrophic and talking about the need for people to understand the devastation on the ground.”

Dugaw says trillions of gallons of rain fell on Louisiana. The flooding has displaced thousands and damaged even more homes.

Dugaw says the Red Cross meets immediate basic needs like shelter, meals, and clean water when disaster strikes. She says volunteers from Oregon and Washington provide assistance with medical care, intake at shelters, and transporting supplies to affected communities.
