JPR has a rare opportunity to add a new member to its excellent team of volunteer substitute Open Air hosts.
We're currently looking for a talented, engaging on-air personality who is passionate about the music played on JPR's Open Air (indie rock/pop, singer/songwriters, folk, blues and more) and wants to be a part of the team that shares the music with the larger JPR audience.
If you’ve always wanted to be on the radio, this is a great way to get started! You don't have to have a plethora of previous radio experience, but it does help. We'll provide all of the training you need to be competent and comfortable in the studio: voice training, technical/equipment training, etc.
What's harder to teach is a knowledge of music, so at the very least we're looking for someone who has spent considerable time listening to JPR's Rhythm & News Service over the last few years and is familiar with the artists we play. You'll be exposed to a ridiculous amount of new music here at the station, and not all of it may match your personal preferences, but open ears and a willingness to explore exciting new sounds are a must.
Due to studio availability, most of the training will need to occur in the mid to late afternoons during the week, and there is a lot to learn. Once training is complete, you'd be added to our substitute host list, and called upon for an occasional fill-in shift here or there in the schedule, as the need arises.
If you're interested, have time in your schedule for a a fairly regular training schedule, and would be available during the day (with lead time) for an occasional on-air shift, send an email with your name/contact information, plus a brief statement as to why you're interested and what skills/experience you'd bring to the role. You can send it to jprmusic@sou.edu
