Nukes, Trees, And Jane Hamilton: JX April 6-10

The ongoing buffet that is The Jefferson Exchange lays out another set of delectable dishes for the first full week of April.

Highlights include a visit with a lifelong anti-nuclear weapons campaigner.

And we'll observe Arbor Week in Oregon (California celebrates in March).

And award-winning author Jane Hamilton visits, too.  Below, minus the pictures, is our still-developing menu...

Monday, April 6, 2015/8:00        Arbor Week In Oregon
When your state is known for its trees, just one day for Arbor Day is not enough.  So both Oregon and California take a full week to celebrate trees and all they provide to the planet.  Arbor Week is this week in Oregon (April 5-11).  We visit with a nursery manager to chat about trees and their proper care and feeding in our climate.

Monday, April 6, 2015/9:00        Author Jane Hamilton On Life And Fiction
One of Jane Hamilton's college professor's said Hamilton would write a novel one day.  The professor was not actually talking TO Hamilton at the time, but she certainly followed through.  "The Book of Ruth" won awards and got a boost from Oprah Winfrey's book club.  And she followed that success with the acclaimed "A Map of the World."  Ashland's Chautauqua Poets & Writers brings Hamilton to town for an event this evening (April 6th), and she visits the studio in advance.

Tuesday, April 7, 2015/9:00        Barbara Marx Hubbard On "Conscious Evolution"
Think about your own worldview of 17 years ago, and how much it's changed.  The futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard has certainly observed some changes in herself, along with the human race.  The book she wrote 17 years ago, "Conscious Evolution," has been revised and re-released to take all the changes into account.  It is still a call to people to fulfill their creative potential.  The author joins us to talk about how.

Wednesday, April 8, 2015/8:00        AIFF Hits The Screens
Ashland's annual Independent Film Festival returns to screens in the city this weekend, with nearly 100 films all lengths and subjects.  We ran down the list of offerings in a previous segment with AIFF bosses.  Today we hope to visit with some of the filmmakers displaying their work.  Tune in to hear about the subject matter, and the process of filmmaking.

Wednesday, April 8, 2015/8:30        VENTSday
Our weekly VENTSday segment puts the listeners front and center. We throw a pair of topics on the table, and let callers and emailers vent--politely--on those topics. Topics range from the global to the hyper-local, and all responsible opinions are welcome. We bring the topics, you bring the opinions. It's VENTSday on The Jefferson Exchange, and you participate by calling 1-800-838-3760 or emailing JX@jeffnet.org.

Friday, April 10, 2015/9:00        Working To End Nuclear Weapons
The world has fewer nuclear weapons than it once did.  But it would only take one to cause death and destruction on a massive scale.  David and Anne Hall of the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action spent the last three decades working to rid the world of nukes... while more countries have built the weapons.  They appear at events in Eugene this weekend, welcomed to town by Oregon Women's Action for New Directions.  David Hall visits to talk about his work and the results of his efforts.
