A 1,300 acre area on Portland's west side would become a destination for mountain bikers, under plans presented this week by Metro officials.
Metro has bought thousands of acres of natural space in the last three decades. Much of it still needs to be planned and developed.
In recent years, off-road cycling has emerged as a priority for some of that land. Metro land manager, Dan Moeller, says that's part of the plan for four properties in the North Tualatin Mountains.
"Certainly off-road cycling is a significant part of this planning effort, but we've also heard from hikers, bird-watchers, and other folks like that, that they want access to these properties as well," Moeller said.
Metro presented scenarios for each of the four properties this week.
Planners are discussing a range of options including separate and shared trails, for off-road cycling and other visitors.
They hope to have the area open to the public by 2017, though some parts would remain off-limits, for environmental reasons.
