Marijuana Sellers To Oregon: Push Back New Packaging, Labeling And Testing Deadline

Starting Saturday, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission is imposing new rules on cannabis packaging, labeling and testing.

Patrick Caldwell, who runs a marijuana packaging company out of Portland, said that’s putting retailers in a tricky situation.

“Everybody out there, every dispensary is having fire sales right now, trying to get rid of all the product that they’ve purchased in the last six months because they literally will not be able to sell them,” said Caldwell.

That’s because much of the packaging doesn’t meet the new child-proof requirements, and the labels don’t meet them either.

The Oregon Cannabis Association is asking regulators to push back the Oct. 1 deadline by at least 30 days, saying it’s an insurmountable challenge.

The OLCC, which oversees the state's recreational marijuana industry, is holding a special meeting Friday, to address temporary rule making for marijuana.
