Making A New(ish) Home In "Bettyville"

Viking Books

George Hodgman was happy living in Brooklyn and working as a book and magazine editor.

And his mother, Betty, was also happy, living her very different life in tiny Paris, Missouri.

They ended up under the same roof again when George lost his job and Betty lost her driver's license in her early 90s.

The renewal, the struggle, and George's flat-out lousy caregiver skills are all fair game in his memoir, Bettyville.

He pays us a visit to explain why he calls himself "a care inflictor."
