Officials in Klamath County say a Nigeria-based email phishing scam last week resulted in personal information of some county workers and clients being compromised.

County Commissioner Kelly Minty Morris wouldn’t name the county office where the breach took place, but she told JPR that over several days, several hundred emails were forwarded from a county worker’s account to an unauthorized account.

Morris said the affected individuals are being notified and the incident has been reported to the FBI.

She added the county has strengthened its security policies and directives to prevent future incidents and that more information about the breach will be released as it becomes available.
