Jackie Woodson: "Brown Girl Dreaming"

Penguin Books

Jacqueline Woodson grew up in South Carolina and New York, and never felt completely a part of either place.

Then again, she grew up in the 1960s and 70s, as civil rights legislation shoved Jim Crow laws into the dustbin.

Woodson tells her story of the times and her experiences in verse, in the book Brown Girl Dreaming.

She visits with excerpts and stories.
