I-5 Re-opens After Head-on Crash Kills Ashland Woman

Oregon State Police

12:00 noon -- An Ashland woman is dead and a Grants Pass man is hospitalized after a wrong-way crash about five miles south of Medford that closed southbound Interstate 5 most of Thursday morning.

The Oregon State Police report the crash occurred about 3:15a.m. last night near milepost 24. A van driven by 32-year-old Richard Webster Scott was driving northbound in the right hand southbound lane of I-5 when it collided head-on with a southbound car driven by 58-year-old Karen Lee Greenstein. Greenstein was pronounced dead at the scene. Scott was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.

Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

OSP Lieutenant Gregg Hastings says I-5 is now open in both directions.
