Governor Kate Brown Friday ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff in honor of Ashland Police Officer Malcus Williams, who died on duty after a medical episode while responding to an emergency call on March 2.

Flags should be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, March 17, the date of Officer Williams' memorial service.

"Officer Williams was a beloved and respected member of the Ashland community, whose compassionate and selfless service will long be remembered," Governor Brown said. "My heart goes out to his family and loved ones, and I extend my sincere appreciation to all of Oregon's law enforcement community."
