UPDATED MONDAY JUNE 29, at 9:30 a.m. | The Buckskin Fire in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is quiet for now, still holding at 5,345 acres. Overall containment remains at 60%.
The fire remains under patrol, but last week's successful burnout operation means no additional fire activity is anticipated within the next 72 hours.
Resources no longer needed in the suppression of the fire are being released for reassignment or to return home. The Helibase at the Illinois Valley Airport has closed and all helicopters will operate from Merlin.
A Fire Area Closure Order remains in place closing forest land around the wildfire area to provide for public health and safety. Also, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest has issued new public use restrictions in various parts of the forest, restricting smoking, use of fires and machinery.
Fire officials say the visible smoke that remains in the Illinois and Rogue Valleys is mostly being carried north from fires in central California. For more information, visit the Oregon Smoke blog.
