While Californians are cutting back on water, and experimenting with long-term solutions to deal with drought, William Shatner said the answer is as simple as starting a Kickstarter page.
The 84-year-old actor said he's looking to crowdsource a $30 billion project to build a pipeline from Seattle, a place where "there's too much water," down Interstate 5 to the drylands of California.
"California’s in the midst of a four-year-old drought," he said in an interview with Yahoo Tech. "They tell us there’s a year’s supply of water left. If it doesn’t rain next year, what do 20 million people in the breadbasket of the world do?"
Woah, woah, woah, William Shatner. The Pacific Northwest isn't being hit as hard with drought, but we're in a dry spell as well. So far this year, Gov. Kate Brown has declared five counties in drought, and about half of Washington state is covered by a drought emergency as well.
Shatner is, after all, an actor, so it's hard to say if he's being serious or not. But it's not as though he could raise the money and get his way: Building a pipeline would require working with many West Coast communities, purchasing land and dealing with backlash from environmental groups.
A quick Google search shows Shatner hasn't followed through with the Kickstarter. At least not yet.
