Chetco Pelican Players present the new play: Athenry ‘Athenry: An Irish Tale’ presented by the Chetco Pelican Players and directed by Val Cowan, opens on Friday, April 13, at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings. Opening Night refreshments will be served starting at 6:45 p.m. Set in mid-19th century Ireland, this is the tale of a family who refuses to give up. It is the story of love and human respect too powerful to die, and a prevailing spirit that overcomes all obstacles. The story takes place during one of the greatest tragedies in world history. Yet, according to Ms. Cowan, “tempered with humor, love and the Chetco Pelican Players’ incredible ability to interpret the strength of the human spirit when responding to trial —we have a story of the Great Hunger that edifies. It should give all who attend a concept of immigration tempered by a deeper understanding of our Irish history. ” Prepare to laugh, to cry and to shudder, as the depths of human emotion are explored to their furthest reach by some of CPPs’ most brilliant talent. Lead roles are taken by Summer Olmos, Sean Farris, Dane Tippman and Bj Farris. Debuting on the CPP stage are a number of fine young actors and crew from BHHS, as well as members of the BHHS teaching staff. The show runs at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, April 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28. and 2 p.m. Sundays, April 15, 22 and 29. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, or $6 for students.
